A police inspector and four other people have been killed after suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Dhang community in Gaya District, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The attackers reportedly stormed the community around 3:00 p.m. on Monday, arriving from the direction of the Sambisa Forest.

They allegedly looted several shops, carting away medicines, food items and agricultural chemicals before fleeing the area.

The attack sent residents scrambling for safety, with many escaping into nearby bushes. Some residents were also reportedly unaccounted for after the incident, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the attack, with its spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, saying five people were killed, including an inspector attached to the Gaya Divisional Police Headquarters.

He said police and military personnel had been deployed to the area to restore calm and assess the extent of the damage.

Local residents, however, said three members of the same family were among those killed.

The suspected insurgents reportedly left before military personnel stationed in Garaha arrived at the community.

Residents have appealed to the Federal and Adamawa State governments to strengthen security around Gaya and other communities bordering the Sambisa Forest, warning that continued attacks could disrupt farming activities and threaten livelihoods.
