The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has started disbursing June and July upkeep allowances to students benefiting from the Federal Government’s student loan programme.
The development was confirmed on Friday by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), while several beneficiaries shared screenshots of their payment alerts on X, indicating that the disbursement process is underway.
In a statement, NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, announced the commencement of the payments and assured students that all outstanding allowances would be settled.
“The payment of June and July NELFUND upkeep allowances has officially commenced.
“As I assured you, every outstanding backlog will be paid. We remain committed to ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student is left behind.”
He appealed to beneficiaries who had yet to receive their allowances to remain patient, explaining that the payments were being processed in batches.
“To all beneficiaries, I urge you to remain patient as payments are processed. If you have not received yours yet, kindly stay calm, as disbursements are being made in batches.
“We are here for you, always, and we will continue to stand firmly in defence of the welfare and interests of Nigerian students.
“Aluta Continua!”
The latest development follows weeks of complaints from students over delays in receiving their monthly upkeep stipends under the NELFUND scheme.
Shortly after the announcement, many beneficiaries took to X to confirm receipt of their June and July payments by posting screenshots of their credit alerts.
The monthly upkeep allowance forms part of the Federal Government’s student loan initiative, providing financial support for eligible students alongside tuition fees paid directly to their respective tertiary institutions.
