The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), has concluded the final phase of its Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (C-WMD) Curriculum Development Workshop for personnel of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Command in Abuja.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
According to the statement, the workshop, held at the Force Headquarters on July 23, 2026, brought together senior officials from the three organisations, including the DTRA delegation led by Major Brittany Brown, the ONSA team headed by Mrs Pamela West, and the EOD-CBRN Command led by Commissioner of Police Hauwa Ibrahim.
The workshop marked the conclusion of an intensive Train-the-Trainers programme designed to institutionalise specialised Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction knowledge within the Nigeria Police Force. The initiative is expected to enhance the Force’s capacity to prevent, detect, investigate and respond effectively to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at the event, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, stressed the importance of specialised training in addressing emerging security threats.
He noted that the evolving nature of weapons of mass destruction requires proactive policing, continuous operational training and stronger collaboration among security agencies and international partners.
DIG Nadada described the workshop as a strategic investment in strengthening the operational readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to protect lives, safeguard critical infrastructure and reinforce Nigeria’s national security architecture.
The statement added that the DIG conveyed the Inspector-General’s appreciation to DTRA and ONSA for their continued support and urged participants to uphold professionalism by cascading the knowledge acquired to other personnel across the Force.
In her remarks, the Commander of the EOD-CBRN Command, CP Hauwa Ibrahim, thanked DTRA and ONSA for their partnership in developing the curriculum. She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to integrating the C-WMD framework into standard police training while advocating sustained collaboration in specialised equipment procurement, technical assistance and advanced capacity-building initiatives.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening specialised operational capabilities through strategic partnerships, inter-agency collaboration and continuous capacity development in line with international best practices.
