More than 20 people, including women and children, are feared dead following a fresh attack on Amper community in the BWI area of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, marking the third attack recorded in Mangu within the past week.

Residents said several people were killed during the latest assault, while others are still unaccounted for. The previous attack in the area reportedly left one person shot.

Confirming the incident, the Plateau State Police Command said it initially received reports of 18 casualties.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, said the number could be higher as information continues to come in from the affected community.

He disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Faniyan Ayodeji, alongside other senior officers, had headed to the area to assess the situation and coordinate the security response.

The repeated attacks have renewed fears among residents, with community members urging the government to deploy more security personnel and take urgent measures to prevent further violence.

Authorities are expected to provide additional details on the casualties and circumstances surrounding the attack as the assessment continues.
