The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on Friday in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The minister congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, urging citizens to reflect on the values of compassion, humility, tolerance and service to humanity associated with the life and teachings of the Prophet.
Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and national progress, stressing that maintaining national cohesion requires the collective efforts of all citizens.
He urged Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and peacefully while showing mutual respect and understanding.
The minister further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining peace across the country.
He wished the Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid ul Mawlid celebration.
