A Kano Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a newlywed woman, Khadija Sa’idu, over the alleged killing of her husband, Malam Auwal Adam.

Khadija, who resides in Hayin Lawal, Rimin Kebe, in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, was brought before the court by the police on a charge bordering on culpable homicide.

The prosecution alleged that the incident followed a disagreement between the couple after Khadija reportedly sought permission from her husband to attend a social gathering.

According to the prosecution, Auwal declined the request, leading to an argument between the couple.

The disagreement allegedly escalated later when Khadija was accused of attacking her husband with a knife while he was asleep on a couch in their residence. She allegedly stabbed him in the chest and neck.

Auwal was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment but was reportedly pronounced dead by medical personnel.

When the matter came up on Thursday, the prosecutor told the court that the case file was still with the state counsel for legal advice on the appropriate course of action.

Presiding Magistrate Haulatu Magaji Kankarofi subsequently ordered that Khadija be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.

The court adjourned the case until September 8, 2026, for further mention.
