President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the next Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with the appointment taking effect from August 27, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Enitan is set to take over from Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who will retire from the federal civil service after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
An indigene of Osun State, Enitan currently serves as the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is the longest-serving Permanent Secretary in the federal civil service.
He has held the rank for seven years and seven months, during which he served in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
His extensive experience across several strategic government institutions is expected to strengthen his understanding of the workings and administrative processes of the Federal Civil Service.
President Tinubu praised the outgoing Head of Service, Walson-Jack, for her contributions to the transformation of the civil service, particularly through reforms, innovations and initiatives implemented during her tenure.
He expressed appreciation for her years of service and wished her a rewarding and successful retirement.
The President tasked Enitan with consolidating ongoing reforms while promoting greater professionalism, efficiency and accountability within the public service.
Tinubu also charged the incoming Head of Service to build a merit-based, innovative and responsive civil service capable of effectively supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and meeting the expectations of Nigerians.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.
He later studied at the University of Lagos, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.
In 2015, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia.
