At least seven people have been killed and two others injured after gunmen opened fire on a commercial bus at Dungus Junction in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Sunday when the vehicle stopped at the junction to drop off passengers, providing the assailants an opportunity to fire at the occupants before fleeing the scene.
Among those killed was the bus driver, identified as Ibrahim, a resident of Bukuru in Jos South Local Government Area.
Two other victims, identified as a fish seller and an orange trader, reportedly survived the attack but sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
Five of the other identified victims were said to be residents of Kuru, while a minor was also reportedly among those who survived the incident.
The attack has heightened fears among residents and commuters in the area, particularly traders and transport operators who use the Kuru axis.
The latest incident has also raised fresh concerns over the security of residents and road users in parts of Jos South.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified reports as security agencies intensify efforts to restore calm and track down those behind the attack.
