Several farmers have reportedly been killed while others sustained injuries or were abducted after armed bandits attacked farming communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attackers reportedly invaded farms in Dunya and Shado communities, both in Kuyello Ward, while farmers were carrying out their agricultural activities.
Residents said the assault triggered panic in the affected communities, forcing several farmers to abandon their farms and flee the area for safety amid fears of further attacks.
The number of casualties could not be immediately ascertained, while details surrounding the reported abductions remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of farmers in Birnin Gwari, which has continued to experience attacks by armed groups, particularly during farming activities.
The development came days after security forces recorded an operational breakthrough along the Birnin Gwari axis.
Between September 9 and 10, 2026, troops of the Joint Task Force reportedly arrested a suspected terrorist kingpin, a logistics supplier and an ammunition courier allegedly transporting 300 rounds of ammunition.
The troops also recovered communication devices and radio equipment reportedly linked to plans to launch attacks on residents in the area.
Despite the recent security operations, the latest attack has raised fresh concerns over the ability of armed groups to continue targeting farming communities.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls placed to his mobile phone as of the time of filing.
