Suspected bandits have attacked a Joint Security Task Force base operated by Operation Burst in the Igbeti axis of Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday when the attackers stormed the security facility and opened fire on personnel stationed at the base.
Sources said the assailants arrived in large numbers and attempted to overwhelm the security personnel and gain access to their weapons.
During the attack, a security patrol vehicle was reportedly set ablaze, while a section of the security facility was also destroyed by fire.
The extent of damage to the facility and whether the attackers succeeded in taking away any firearms or ammunition could not be immediately established.
A security source said the attackers were eventually repelled after personnel from other security agencies were mobilised to reinforce the officers at the location.
The assailants reportedly fled the area following the arrival of the reinforcement.
Another source within the Oorelope security command confirmed that both the patrol van and part of the facility were damaged in the attack.
The source said security authorities had commenced efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the incident, while operations in the area had been intensified.
A source from one of the sister security agencies also confirmed the attack, but declined to be named because he was not authorised to speak publicly about the incident.
The security command said no casualty was recorded during the attack.
Further details, including the identity of the attackers and the full extent of the damage, are expected to emerge as security agencies continue their investigation and operations in the area.
