The Police Service Commission (PSC) has commended the Nigeria Police Force for its professional, orderly and coordinated conduct during the Osun State Governorship Election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the PSC, Torty Njoku Kalu, in Osogbo, Osun State.

The commission said its monitoring exercise covered polling units across all 30 Local Government Areas and the three senatorial districts of the state.

According to the PSC’s interim assessment, police personnel were adequately deployed and largely complied with established guidelines governing election duties.

The commission said an average of four police officers was deployed to each polling unit across the state, with Osun Central recording an average of three officers per polling unit, while Osun East and Osun West had about five officers each.

The PSC also observed the involvement of other security and emergency agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Fire Service, ICPC, Nigeria Correctional Service and the Nigerian Armed Forces.

It said the agencies worked alongside the police at polling units and the Election Joint Operations Control Room, describing the inter-agency cooperation as cordial and important to the peaceful conduct of the election.

The leader of the PSC monitoring team, DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu (retd.), expressed satisfaction with the performance of the police throughout the exercise.

Lakanu also praised Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for the deployment strategy adopted for the election, which saw DIG Isyaku Mohammed, Ph.D., serve as the Election DIG and CP Samuel Erale Etaifo as the Election CP.

The commission further noted that police officers across the three senatorial districts were generally courteous, approachable and professional in their dealings with voters, election officials and monitoring teams.

It said officers maintained order at polling locations and responded appropriately to inquiries during the electoral process.

The PSC concluded that the Nigeria Police Force displayed a high level of professionalism, discipline and cordiality during the election.

The commission said it would continue to exercise its oversight responsibilities to ensure that police officers assigned to electoral duties maintain the required professional standards.
