The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has directed the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons to vacate their positions with immediate effect.

The directive was issued by the NFF Executive Committee in a brief statement on Monday, although the federation did not disclose the reason behind the decision.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the NFF stated.

The development follows the Super Falcons’ disappointing outing at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria suffered an early setback with a group-stage defeat to debutants Malawi.

Malawi later produced an impressive run to reach the final before losing to Cameroon, who secured their first WAFCON title on Sunday.

Nigeria’s campaign ended in the quarter-finals after the Super Falcons were beaten by Cameroon, a result that denied them an automatic qualification spot for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The team was subsequently given another chance to book its World Cup ticket through a playoff against South Africa but suffered another defeat.

The latest decision by the NFF means the Super Falcons will now begin the search for a new technical direction as they continue their efforts to qualify for the 2027 World Cup.

The team’s technical setup had been headed by Justin Madugu, alongside his assistants and other backroom personnel.

Madugu and Edwin Okon were appointed to the Super Falcons’ technical crew by the NFF in November 2021 as part of efforts to restructure the women’s national team.

The NFF’s decision also comes against the backdrop of Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Super Eagles missed out on automatic qualification after finishing second in their group before losing to DR Congo in the African playoff final. The match ended 1–1 after extra time, with DR Congo eventually winning 4–3 on penalties.
