Armed bandits on Tuesday night attacked Bakura town in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State, shooting a resident, rustling cattle and stealing mobile phones during the raid.
The victim, identified as Sufiyanu Anah, sustained gunshot injuries after the assailants invaded the community. The attackers also made away with an undisclosed number of cattle before fleeing.
Among those affected were Umaru Mandi, the Bakura Ward Chairman under Governor Dauda Lawal’s political structure, whose mobile phone was reportedly seized. The gunmen also confiscated the phones of Tukur Sama’ila, popularly known as Tukur O C, and his wife.
Residents said the attackers operated for some time without resistance, leaving many community members frightened as they looted valuables and carried out the assault.
The latest incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, is the latest in a series of attacks that have continued to trouble communities across Zamfara despite ongoing security operations aimed at curbing banditry.
Reacting to the attack on Wednesday, security analyst Bakatsine described the incident as further evidence of the security challenges confronting rural communities in northern Nigeria.
According to him, the attack highlights the continued vulnerability of residents, many of whom have suffered the loss of lives, property and their sense of security.
He also wished the injured victim, Sufiyanu Anah, a quick recovery and expressed hope for lasting peace in the affected community.
The attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Zamfara State, where armed groups have repeatedly carried out deadly raids, kidnapped residents for ransom, rustled livestock and looted property despite sustained military operations against criminal elements.
