The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to deepen collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI) to enhance the legal, investigative and prosecutorial capacity of its personnel.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force said the initiative was unveiled during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the National Judicial Institute.

The IGP was received by the Administrator of the Institute, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo, OFR, alongside the Institute Secretary, Mr. Olumo Abdulazeez, Esq., and members of the Institute’s management team.

During the visit, IGP Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the rule of law and the effective administration of criminal justice. He stressed the importance of institutional collaboration in equipping police personnel with the knowledge and skills required to meet evolving law enforcement challenges.

As part of the proposed partnership, the Inspector-General called for continuous specialised training for police lawyers, prosecutors, Investigating Police Officers (IPOs) and other officers in key areas, including criminal justice administration, electronic evidence, cybercrime investigation, digital forensics, human rights, prosecution advocacy and case management.

He also proposed the introduction of executive education and professional certification programmes for police personnel, as well as regular seminars, workshops and joint research initiatives aimed at improving investigative standards and strengthening prosecution across the Force.

Responding, Justice Adejumo welcomed the proposal and expressed the National Judicial Institute’s readiness to work closely with the Nigeria Police Force in advancing professional development within the justice sector.

The NJI Administrator also commended the Inspector-General for establishing a police outpost within the Institute and appealed for sustained collaboration to further strengthen security at the facility.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that promote professionalism, enhance institutional capacity and support the effective administration of criminal justice nationwide.
