Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is planning to freeze the bank accounts of the state government and some senior officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi.
According to the statement, Adeleke said he received credible intelligence indicating that the anti-graft agency had finalised plans to block access to the state government’s accounts.
He claimed the alleged move was aimed at disrupting government operations in the days leading to the governorship election.
The governor described the reported plan as unlawful, insisting that the EFCC has no constitutional or legal authority to freeze the accounts of a state government.
Adeleke argued that there was no legal justification for such an action and warned that any attempt to carry it out would amount to an abuse of power.
The allegation comes as political activities intensify ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election, where Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, is seeking a second term against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The governor has on several occasions accused political opponents of attempting to frustrate his administration before the election.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not responded to the allegations. Efforts to obtain the agency’s reaction were still ongoing.
