The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Peter Sinamai, over the alleged murder of his biological father in Sangere, Gombi Local Government Area of the state.
The command disclosed this in a statement signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police on Friday.
According to the statement, the suspect was arrested after police received a report linking him to the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that he allegedly killed his father before dumping the body in a well within the community.
The statement added that the victim’s corpse had been recovered from the well and deposited in a mortuary for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, has directed detectives to carry out a discreet and comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime.
The police said the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner condemned the incident, assuring residents that the command remains committed to ensuring justice is served. He also urged members of the public to resolve family disputes through lawful and peaceful means and seek appropriate intervention whenever conflicts arise.
The command noted that further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
