The All Progressives Congress Chairman in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Ishaq Yunusa, has been killed by gunmen during an attack along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway.

Another person travelling in the same vehicle was abducted during the incident.

The attack happened around 5pm on Thursday near Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area.

According to the Kogi State Police Command, the assailants reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and attacked motorists on the highway.

A blue Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 636 CH was later discovered abandoned on the road.

Police said Yunusa, who was driving the vehicle, was found dead inside, while another occupant was taken away into the bush.

Following the attack, security operatives have launched a search operation across the surrounding forest in an effort to locate the abducted victim and track down those responsible.

The deceased was taken to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for an autopsy, while investigators continue to pursue leads that could assist in identifying the attackers.

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has ordered sustained security operations along the affected route and directed officers to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The police have also advised motorists and residents in the area to remain alert and immediately report suspicious persons or activities to security agencies.

Authorities say further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
