President Bola Tinubu has named Yakubu Jang, son of former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President.
The appointment was announced on Saturday by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the 80th birthday celebration and autobiography launch of former Governor Jonah Jang in Jos, Plateau State. Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, Shettima made the announcement before an audience of political leaders, government officials and other distinguished guests.
“On behalf of Mr President, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Yakubu Jang as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President,” Shettima said.
The event, held at the Tamarald Event Centre in Jos, attracted several prominent personalities, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, serving and former governors, federal and state government officials, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries.
Explaining the appointment, the Vice President said it underscored President Tinubu’s commitment to recognising competence, rewarding loyalty and ensuring broader representation in government.
The announcement was greeted with applause from guests, including political allies, associates and members of the Jang family.
The appointment coincided with a gathering of Nigeria’s political elite to celebrate Jonah Jang’s contributions to national development. The elder statesman has served as an officer in the Nigerian Air Force, Military Administrator, two-term Governor of Plateau State and Senator.
As part of the celebration, the former governor, who marked his 80th birthday, also unveiled his autobiography titled Airman to Politics: My Life.
