The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate accused of abducting a resident of Port Harcourt and collecting ₦10.3 million in ransom.
The suspects were apprehended in the Borikiri area of Port Harcourt following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit.
According to the police, the victim was abducted on September 6, 2026, around the vicinity of Fidelity Bank, Garrison, Port Harcourt, and taken to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri.
He was allegedly held captive for three days before his relatives paid ₦10.3 million to secure his release.
The Command’s spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.
She said the police received credible information about the abduction on September 7 and immediately deployed operatives to locate the victim and his abductors.
Agabe said the ensuing intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of two suspects identified as 24-year-old Victor Ifeanyi, also known as “Big Boby”, from Aguleri Community in Otuocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, and 36-year-old Aniekan Okon Michael, alias “Duff Man”, from Ikot Ukpor in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicated that the suspects admitted to involvement in the alleged crime and disclosed that the syndicate consists of six members.
The suspects also reportedly told investigators that the gang used a white mini-bus, commonly known as a Keke bus, during the operation.
The police said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining members of the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju, urged residents to provide security agencies with credible information that could assist in identifying and apprehending criminal elements.
Adepoju assured members of the public that information supplied to the police would be treated with strict confidentiality.
He further said the Command would sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling kidnapping syndicates and other criminal networks across Rivers State, while urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
