The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man identified as Zayyanu Halilu for allegedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl in Abuja.
The suspect was apprehended on October 2, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.
According to the Command, the officers noticed a navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the location with its windows fully wound up. The vehicle was reportedly shaking, prompting the officers to approach and inspect it.
The officers subsequently discovered Halilu allegedly sexually assaulting the minor inside the vehicle and immediately arrested him, while the victim was rescued.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured the girl to the same location on previous occasions, where he sexually abused her and threatened to harm her if she disclosed the incidents.
A medical examination conducted on the victim also reportedly established that she was approximately three months pregnant.
The victim has been placed under medical care and is receiving further medical assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
The Command said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, urged parents and guardians to closely monitor the safety, welfare and whereabouts of their children and wards.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
