The Defence Headquarters has warned Nigerians to disregard any suspicious information that may appear on its official X account after detecting an attempted unauthorised takeover of the platform.
The military authorities said the incident was being handled as a cybersecurity matter, with technical teams already working to secure the account and prevent further intrusion.
The Director of Defence Information, Maj Gen Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, urging members of the public, journalists and other stakeholders not to rely on questionable posts from the account until full control is restored.
He said the Defence Headquarters was taking necessary steps to recover the account and ensure that it was protected against further unauthorised access.
Uba stressed that the military remained committed to protecting the integrity of its communication channels and providing Nigerians with accurate and credible information about the activities of the Armed Forces.
He also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and said further updates would be issued as the situation develops.
Meanwhile, the DHQ advised Nigerians seeking verified information to use its official accounts on other platforms, including Facebook, where it is known as “Defence Headquarters Nigeria,” Instagram (@defenceheadquarters) and its WhatsApp Channel, Defence Headquarters Nigeria.
