The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported the killing of prominent Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) operatives in a precision airstrike targeting a terrorist hideout in the Lake Chad region.
The operation, conducted on October 19, 2026, also destroyed logistical equipment believed to have been used by the insurgents to facilitate their movements and operations.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
According to the statement, preliminary post-strike assessments indicated that several high-ranking ISWAP fighters were neutralised, including Jindullah, identified as the group’s chief security guard and a close associate of Abu Saleem.
Another operative killed in the strike was Abul Kissa, a member of the group’s Shura Council, which plays a key role in its leadership structure.
The Air Force added that the operation destroyed boat engines and motorcycles suspected to have been used by the terrorists for transportation and other operational activities.
Ejodame said the successful strike reflected the NAF’s continued deployment of intelligence-driven air operations to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their supply chains and improve security across the North-East.
He noted that targeting insurgent hideouts in difficult terrain remained a critical component of efforts to limit their operational capabilities and protect vulnerable communities.
According to him, the neutralisation of key operatives and destruction of essential logistical resources would undermine ISWAP’s ability to coordinate its activities and sustain threats against civilian populations.
Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to maintaining sustained air operations against terrorist groups in support of ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
The statement added that the NAF would continue to collaborate with other military services and security agencies to consolidate operational gains, safeguard vulnerable communities and advance the pursuit of lasting peace in the North-East.
