Social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has agreed to honour the invitation extended to him by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations he made against a senior police officer.
His legal team, led by human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the development in a statement issued on August 5, 2026, by Zainab M. Otega, Esq., following the police’s announcement of an investigation into the allegations.
According to the lawyers, VDM welcomes the decision of the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the claims and is fully prepared to cooperate with the process.
They stressed that the activist has never resisted any lawful investigation and remains willing to appear before the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, in line with the invitation.
However, the legal team urged the police to ensure that the investigation is conducted in a transparent and credible manner, citing the public interest generated by the case and the seniority of the officer involved.
To guarantee fairness, the lawyers requested that representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), civil society organisations and other independent observers be allowed to witness the interview.
They also asked that VDM’s legal representatives be permitted to accompany him and remain present throughout the interrogation.
According to the legal team, the requests are intended to promote openness and public confidence in the investigation and should not be interpreted as an attempt to interfere with the constitutional or statutory powers of the Nigeria Police Force.
The lawyers reiterated that their client remains committed to complying with every lawful directive and looks forward to appearing before investigators as requested.
The development follows a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, confirming that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, had invited VDM to provide evidence supporting the allegations he made against the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh.
The police also disclosed that the criminal matter referenced by the social media personality is already before a court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), adding that the case would be determined through the judicial process.
The Force further revealed that, as part of an internal administrative review, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the FCID had also invited AIG Moshood Jimoh for questioning over the allegations.
