UZODINMA: DAVIDO REMAINS MY SON, DISTANCES SELF FROM AIDE’S COMMENTS

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, has reaffirmed his cordial relationship with music star Davido, saying the singer remains “his son” despite the political exchanges ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.

Uzodinma, who heads the APC Osun Governorship Campaign Council, made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Oguwike Nwachuku.

The governor explained that although he is actively campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, he is not a registered voter in Osun State and is only participating in the campaign as a party leader.

His statement followed remarks allegedly made by Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who criticised Davido after the singer appealed for a peaceful, free and credible governorship election.

Davido, who is related to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, had called on Uzodinma to ensure that the poll is conducted peacefully and fairly.

Responding, Uzodinma disowned the comments attributed to Nwogwugwu, stressing that neither the individual nor anyone else was authorised to speak on his behalf.

“The comments are personal opinions and do not represent my position or that of the APC governorship campaign council,” he said.

Reiterating his affection for the award-winning singer, the governor said, “Davido remains my son. His coming to Osun for the exercise is solely because he is a committed member of the APC and not one of the voters in the state’s governorship election.”

Uzodinma also restated the APC’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful, free, fair and credible election in Osun State.

He noted that it is normal in a democratic setting for party leaders and supporters to campaign in states where they are not registered voters.

The governor urged Davido, the people of Osun State and the public to ignore the remarks credited to Nwogwugwu, saying the clarification was necessary to avoid any misunderstanding before the governorship election.
