The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a series of operational successes across five states, including the foiling of bandit and armed robbery attacks, arrest of suspects and recovery of firearms, ammunition and other exhibits.

The development was contained in a state-by-state operational update issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, ANIPR, on Monday, August 10, 2026.

The successes were recorded in Benue, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Imo and Ogun states between August 8 and 10.

In Benue State, police operatives on August 9 repelled an attack by armed bandits on Jootar Police Station in Ukum Local Government Area.

The officers engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat and flee the area. No casualty was recorded among the police personnel.

In a separate incident in Gwer East Local Government Area, police responded to a distress call concerning suspected armed robbers who had blocked the highway at Ayati Village.

The suspects engaged the responding officers in a gun duel before escaping into a nearby bush.

A locally fabricated revolver, four live cartridges and a mobile phone were recovered, while the roadblock was dismantled to restore free movement along the highway.

In Ekiti State, police arrested a 40-year-old man over an alleged attempted rape and assault of a 96-year-old woman in Emure-Ekiti.

The suspect was taken into custody and reportedly confessed during interrogation. The victim was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention.

In Akwa Ibom State, police operations targeting suspected criminal hideouts led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

In a separate operation, three suspected cultists were arrested while allegedly gathered at Ikot Ubok Udom Village in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

A single-barrel gun and a pump-action firearm were recovered from the suspects.

In Imo State, 11 suspected militia members were arrested after police operatives raided a suspected hideout at Odumara Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government Area on August 8.

The operation also led to the recovery of a bullet-proof vest reportedly made from wood and fortified with charms.

In Ogun State, three suspects were arrested over the alleged theft of company cable wires at a quarry site in Odeda.

The suspects were identified through CCTV footage and taken into custody for questioning, while efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen cables and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The various operations underscore the Force’s continued commitment to disrupting criminal activities, preventing violent attacks and protecting lives and property across the country.

The respective State Criminal Investigation Departments are handling the investigations.
