The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers and recovered suspected illicit substances during a patrol operation in Akure as part of its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and related crimes across the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squad under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu.
According to the statement, the operation forms part of sustained efforts by the Command to dismantle criminal networks believed to be linked to cultism, armed robbery and other violent crimes.
The suspects, identified as Fisayo Adedamola (female), Adeola Oluwaseun and Adeogun Olumide, were arrested on July 24, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. during a confidence-building patrol within the Akure metropolis after officers allegedly linked them to the sale and distribution of illicit drugs.
A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of substances suspected to be cannabis, Tramadol capsules, Codeine syrup, Tutolin syrup and other pharmaceutical products believed to be abused drugs.
The suspects have been taken into custody, while the recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence. Preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the drugs, identify possible accomplices and uncover any criminal network connected to the suspects’ activities. The Command said they would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The statement quoted Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu as reaffirming the Command’s commitment to combating the proliferation of illicit drugs across Ondo State, noting that drug abuse and trafficking remain major drivers of cult-related violence, armed robbery and other criminal activities.
He urged parents, guardians, community leaders and members of the public to support the Police with timely and credible information that would aid efforts to identify and apprehend those involved in drug trafficking and other crimes.
The Commissioner further assured residents that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations and sustained collaboration with the public, warning criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
