The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, will serve as Chief Host at the 2026 Annual Conference and Awards of the Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN), where stakeholders will deliberate on security challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by CCAN General Secretary, Peter Ireh.
The event, scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, will focus on the theme, “Navigating Security Challenges in the 2027 Election: The Role of the Media in Combating Fake News.”
The conference is expected to bring together security chiefs, media executives, journalists, policymakers and other stakeholders to examine ways of addressing misinformation, electoral violence and other threats to the country’s democratic process.
The association said the IGP’s participation as Chief Host underscores the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the media in combating fake news, promoting public confidence and strengthening national security.
The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, is expected to deliver the keynote address, with emphasis on information integrity, responsible journalism and the media’s role in promoting democratic stability.
Speaking ahead of the conference, CCAN National Chairman, Festus Fifen, described the gathering as a timely initiative in view of the security concerns surrounding the forthcoming elections.
Fifen said ensuring peaceful elections was a collective responsibility, stressing that the media had a crucial role in countering misinformation and preventing the spread of reports capable of inciting violence or undermining national peace.
He added that the conference would provide a platform for security agencies and media professionals to exchange ideas, strengthen cooperation and develop practical strategies for tackling information-related threats before, during and after the elections.
The programme will also feature an awards presentation to recognise individuals and institutions whose contributions have advanced national security, public service and professional excellence.
CCAN has called on journalists, security agencies, government officials, civil society organisations, policymakers and members of the public to participate in the conference.
