The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday hosted the leadership and participants of the National Defence College at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to advancing police reform, improving internal security, and deepening collaboration on strategic policing initiatives.
The delegation, led by the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, paid a courtesy visit to the IGP alongside members of the institution’s management, directing staff, participants and support personnel. Discussions focused on key national security issues, including police reforms, state policing, command and coordination mechanisms, as well as strategies for addressing emerging internal security challenges.
Speaking during the visit, Rear Admiral Ahmed explained that the research paper presented to the Inspector-General was independently produced by police officers undergoing training at the College. According to him, the participants conducted extensive research and applied their professional expertise to develop practical and implementable recommendations, while faculty members provided only academic supervision and methodological guidance.
He expressed confidence that the study’s findings would make valuable contributions to ongoing discussions on police reforms and enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s preparedness to tackle evolving security threats through 2035.
Responding, IGP Disu described the research as both timely and significant, commending the participants for producing a well-researched and practical document capable of shaping future policing strategies in the country.
The police chief noted that the study offers a credible framework for discussions on state policing, particularly through its comprehensive analysis of public concerns, sound research methodology and comparative assessment of policing models in jurisdictions where state police systems are already in operation.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to sustaining institutional partnerships with the National Defence College and other strategic stakeholders to strengthen policing, enhance internal security and promote national development.
