The governorship contest in Osun State has recorded a major political realignment as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, has withdrawn from the race and thrown his weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Adeyemi-Doro announced his withdrawal on Saturday during a media briefing in Osogbo, where he urged his supporters to transfer their support to Oyebamiji ahead of the election.
He said the decision was reached after extensive consultations with members of his political team and key APGA stakeholders in the state.
The APGA candidate said he had carefully considered the candidates seeking to govern Osun and concluded that working with Oyebamiji offered an opportunity to advance what he described as a common progressive political vision.
He expressed optimism that the alliance would boost Oyebamiji’s chances at the polls while bringing more political groups together around a shared development agenda for the state.
Receiving the endorsement, Oyebamiji described the development as a welcome addition to his campaign.
The APC candidate assured Adeyemi-Doro and APGA supporters that their interests would be accommodated in his administration if he wins the election.
Oyebamiji also reiterated his willingness to work with individuals and political groups regardless of their previous affiliations, provided they are committed to the growth and development of Osun State.
