A woman kidnapped by suspected armed robbers along the Kassa–Barkin Ladi highway in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State has escaped from her captors and is receiving treatment for minor injuries.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, when suspected armed robbers reportedly blocked the highway with stones and intercepted vehicles travelling along the route.

The development was disclosed by security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who cited security sources.

According to the sources, the woman managed to escape in the early hours of Wednesday, September 16, before finding her way to safety.

She was later taken to a hospital in Heipang for medical attention.

Following the incident, troops of Sector 4, Operation ENDURING PEACE, stationed at the Alpha Guard location, responded to the area and cleared the highway.

The troops also reportedly found an ash-coloured Sharon vehicle without a registration number at the scene.

Security authorities have since deployed a team to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s escape and gather evidence that could help identify and track the suspected attackers.

The incident has heightened security concerns along the Kassa–Barkin Ladi axis, as security forces intensify efforts to locate those behind the attack.
