A viral moment from a United States relationship podcast has triggered widespread reactions online after a 54-year-old woman shared details of her long-distance marriage to a 36-year-old Nigerian man.

The woman, who appeared on the podcast’s open-mic segment where guests seek relationship advice, asked the panel: “At what point does fighting for a relationship become settling for less than what you deserve?”

One of the hosts then asked whether she was referring to a husband or a boyfriend.

“Husband. I am married. I am in a long-distance relationship,” she replied.

The conversation continued as the host asked how far apart they were.

“He is in Nigeria. I am 54, he is 36,” the woman responded.

Her mention of Nigeria immediately drew loud laughter from both the podcast hosts and members of the audience.

One of the hosts then asked, “You haven’t been sending any money, have you?”

The woman admitted, “I send money every month.”

Reacting to her response, one of the presenters exclaimed, “You have been scammed!” as the studio audience and other hosts burst into laughter.

Explaining why she has remained in the marriage despite feeling she is not receiving the love she deserves, the woman cited a Bible verse, saying “she does him good all the days of her life.”

She added, “I know if I leave, he is going to become nothing.”

The clip has since circulated widely on social media, drawing mixed reactions. While many Nigerians found the exchange amusing, others expressed concern that romance scams involving some individuals continue to damage the country’s reputation internationally.
