The incident happened on November 23, 2025, when the woman was asleep at the family residence.
According to the South African Police Service, the victim woke up after noticing someone on top of her and was shocked to discover that the attacker was her son.
She reportedly screamed and confronted him, causing him to leave her immediately before fleeing the house.
The woman alerted her husband, after which the matter was reported to the police and an investigation commenced.
The case was subsequently handed to Detective Constable Leevirne Nathalie Raaf of the Carnarvon Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Investigators later arrested the suspect after DNA evidence connected him to the crime.
During his court appearances, Detective Constable Raaf successfully opposed his application for bail as investigations continued.
On Friday, August 28, 2026, the Carnarvon Regional Court found the accused guilty of rape and sentenced him to 20 years’ direct imprisonment.
The court further ordered that he be listed on South Africa’s National Register for Sex Offenders and declared him legally unfit to possess a firearm.
District Commissioner of the Pixley ka Seme District, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, praised Detective Constable Raaf for her commitment and thorough investigation, noting that her efforts played a significant role in securing the conviction and substantial prison sentence.
