Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered security agencies to identify and arrest those behind the vandalism of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.
The governor described the damage to the public infrastructure as unacceptable, warning that anyone found responsible would be prosecuted.
His position was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
Sanwo-Olu said the state would not allow criminals to destroy public infrastructure, describing the incident as both barbaric and criminal.
He also disclosed that officials from the Office of Infrastructure had visited the affected bridge and confirmed that its structural integrity had not been compromised.
According to him, immediate remedial measures would be carried out to safeguard the bridge columns and prevent further damage.
The governor described the vandalism as “horrendous, shameful and condemnable,” insisting that Lagos would not tolerate attacks on critical infrastructure or public facilities.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public infrastructure to the appropriate authorities.
Sanwo-Olu assured Lagosians that those responsible for the incident would be made to face the full weight of the law.
