Former Ekiti Central Senator, Babafemi Ojudu, has urged Anthony Kila to resist the thought that death is the only way out of the public embarrassment arising from allegations surrounding his academic qualifications.

Ojudu’s appeal comes amid growing controversy over Kila’s educational background, following an investigative report by Premium Times.

Kila was suspended last week from his position as Pro-Chancellor of Michael and Cecilia Ibru University after the publication questioned the authenticity of his professorial title.

In a follow-up report published on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Premium Times further alleged that Kila falsified his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.

Despite the allegations and calls from members of the public for an explanation, Kila has yet to issue an official response.

Reacting to his silence, Ojudu, who said he had known Kila for a long time, stressed that the allegations required a clear and documented response.

The former senator also expressed concern about Kila’s well-being, urging his family and close associates to remain available to him as he navigates the controversy.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Ojudu cautioned against allowing public disgrace to push anyone into believing that death was the only escape from the consequences of their actions.

He appealed to Kila’s relatives and friends to check on him, listen to his concerns and ensure he had people to turn to during the difficult period.

Although he said he had no information suggesting that Kila intended to harm himself, Ojudu emphasised the importance of taking any indication of suicidal thoughts seriously and seeking urgent professional assistance where necessary.

Addressing Kila directly, the former senator said the situation, however painful, did not mean he could not rebuild his life.

According to him, Kila might lose positions, titles and the trust of people who once held him in high regard, but he could still choose a different path by making use of his genuine abilities and knowledge.

Ojudu urged him to tell the truth, accept responsibility for his actions and make amends, noting that an honest account of his past would be the first step towards rebuilding his future.

He added that starting over would require humility, patience and a willingness to make restitution.
