The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has prohibited the use of drones, fireworks and other devices capable of causing public panic ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s one-day visit to the state on Friday.
Tinubu is expected to inaugurate several projects completed by Governor Umo Eno’s administration and attend an All Progressives Congress (APC) political rally as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, announced the restrictions during a press conference in Uyo on Thursday, saying the measures were aimed at ensuring adequate security and maintaining public order throughout the President’s visit.
Azare urged residents to cooperate with security operatives by avoiding roads designated for the presidential movement to facilitate the smooth passage of the President’s convoy.
He disclosed that traffic restrictions would be enforced on major roads leading to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, including Airport Road, Iron Road and Ring Road III.
The police commissioner also appealed to opposition political parties and other groups to reschedule activities planned for Friday to prevent possible clashes and maintain peace across the state.
He warned that the command would not tolerate any action capable of disrupting the presidential visit, assuring residents that security personnel were fully prepared to address any threats.
Projects scheduled for inauguration by the President include the new terminal building at Victor Attah International Airport, Aviation Village, Ring Road III Extension and Arise Resort Park in Uyo.
