A nurse identified as Taiwo Godwin Ayodeji has died following an asthma attack at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, with a colleague alleging that oxygen was not properly administered despite his worsening condition.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to SaharaReporters, Ayodeji, who reportedly had a history of asthma and was known at the hospital, was rushed to the facility after experiencing breathing difficulties while playing football.

The source said a friend who accompanied him disclosed that the nurse was still able to walk into the hospital’s emergency unit upon arrival.

However, the eyewitness alleged that although Ayodeji was connected to oxygen equipment, the supply was not switched on.

“I noticed he was on oxygen, but the oxygen was not put on,” the source said.

The eyewitness further claimed that Ayodeji’s condition had significantly deteriorated by the time medical personnel attended to him, alleging that he had developed a weak pulse and dilated pupils.

The source also alleged that a doctor struggled to gain access to his vein, while attempts to secure his airway were unsuccessful before he was eventually pronounced dead.

The incident has reportedly raised concerns among colleagues, with the eyewitness claiming that Ayodeji’s death was the second involving a nurse from the same school at the hospital this year.

The source called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s death and urged the relevant authorities to ensure justice for the deceased.

The eyewitness identified a doctor referred to as Dr Ofo as the person allegedly responsible for the incident.

However, the allegations against the doctor have not been independently verified. It is also unclear whether the hospital management or relevant authorities have commenced an investigation into the incident.
