The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed a recruitment update circulating on social media, describing it as false and warning Nigerians not to fall for fraudulent job advertisements.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Service said the recruitment notice currently being shared online did not originate from the NCS and should be ignored.
According to the statement, “The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) wishes to inform the public that the purported recruitment update currently circulating on some social media platforms is fake and did not originate from the Service.”
The agency advised members of the public to rely only on information published through its official communication channels for updates on its activities, including recruitment exercises.
The NCS also urged Nigerians to verify any recruitment-related information before acting on it or sharing it with others.
It added, “Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the Nigeria Customs Service.”
The Service noted that its verified social media platforms include Facebook (Nigeria Customs Service) and its official Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Threads and TikTok accounts, all operating under the handle @customsng.
The warning comes amid persistent cases of recruitment scams in Nigeria, where fraudsters exploit the desire for government jobs by circulating fake employment notices and demanding money from unsuspecting applicants.
Reiterating its advice, the Service urged Nigerians to remain cautious and verify information before responding to or sharing recruitment announcements, stressing, “Stay vigilant. Verify information before sharing.”
