The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two individuals earlier suspected of having Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Adamawa State have tested negative following laboratory investigations.

The Director-General of the agency, Dr Jide Idris, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, explaining that samples collected from the individuals returned negative results after two rounds of testing.

According to him, the suspected cases were reported to the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre in the early hours of October 30, 2026, after two individuals presented symptoms requiring further investigation.

Idris said both individuals were immediately isolated, while relevant public health measures were activated in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government through its Ministry of Health and Human Services.

He commended the state Commissioner for Health and his team for their prompt response, assuring residents that the NCDC would continue to provide technical assistance to strengthen ongoing surveillance and response efforts.

The NCDC boss clarified that Adamawa has no laboratory-confirmed case of Ebola, adding that the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory remains the only confirmed case recorded in Nigeria.

He urged Nigerians to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified reports about the situation, advising the public to rely on official government and public health communication channels for accurate updates.

Idris also advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly after possible exposure to the virus, to seek immediate medical attention.

He warned against self-medication and urged individuals to provide healthcare workers with relevant travel and contact histories.

The NCDC said it would continue to monitor the situation alongside the Adamawa State Government and other relevant stakeholders, promising to communicate further developments as verified information becomes available.
