The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is set to engage major stakeholders on Tuesday as preparations for the 2027 general elections enter the final 100-day countdown.

The commission will hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference in Abuja to update Nigerians and other key players on its readiness for the elections.

The event, scheduled for 10am at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside representatives of other institutions involved in the electoral process.

According to the commission, discussions will centre on the voters’ register, nomination of candidates, election logistics and measures being implemented to protect the credibility and integrity of the polls.

INEC said the engagement would also provide an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among institutions and organisations whose roles are crucial to the successful conduct and security of the elections.

Political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups are expected at the meeting.

Others expected include representatives of disability rights groups, religious and traditional institutions, youth organisations and the media.

The commission said the meeting was part of its commitment to transparency, timely communication and collaboration with stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.

It added that the event would be broadcast live on major television stations and streamed through its official social media platforms to enable Nigerians who are unable to attend physically to follow the proceedings.

INEC, however, did not state whether any changes to the existing electoral timetable would be announced during the engagement.

Attendance at the venue will be strictly by invitation, while accredited journalists and invited participants are required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at designated security checkpoints.
