The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the nationwide public display of the personal particulars, academic qualifications and supporting documents submitted by presidential candidates contesting the 2027 general election.

Among the documents now available for public inspection are those of President Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his running mate, Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Documents contained in Tinubu’s Form EC9 show that he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University in the United States. His academic transcript indicates the degree was awarded with honours on June 22, 1979.

The documents also include his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate, showing that he served in Oyo State between December 1982 and November 1983.

IAccording to the records, Tinubu worked with Mobil Nigeria Limited from 1983 to 1992 before leaving for career advancement. He later served as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 and has been serving in the Federal Government since assuming office as President in 2023.

The form lists his date of birth as March 29, 1952, his place of birth as Lagos, his occupation as a politician, and his residential address in Ikoyi, Lagos. While his university qualification was fully provided, the years of attendance for his primary and secondary education were entered as “0000.”

Vice President Shettima’s submitted documents provide details of his educational journey from primary school.
His primary school certificate shows he attended Lamisula  Primary School between 1972 and 1978, where he graduated second in a class of 22 pupils. 

English, History and Religious Knowledge were listed among his best-performing subjects.
His West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result from Government Secondary School, Potiskum, reflects credits and passes, including distinctions in Religious Knowledge and Economics.

The records further show that Shettima earned a Second Class Upper degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri in 1989 before obtaining a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.

IHis NYSC certificate indicates he completed his national service between October 1989 and October 1990.

INEC said the public display of Form EC9 is in compliance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which requires the commission to publish the personal particulars, credentials and affidavits submitted by candidates within 21 days of receiving their nomination documents.

The commission explained that the forms are being displayed at its offices across the country, including state headquarters and local government offices in the affected constituencies.

INEC also reminded Nigerians that the Electoral Act allows members of the public to obtain certified true copies of candidates’ nomination documents and challenge any alleged false declaration or forged credentials through the courts.

Under the commission’s revised election timetable, campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections will begin on August 19, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will commence at a later date.
