Five Islamic clerics have reportedly been kidnapped in Zamfara State after attending a prayer session organised for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The clerics were said to have been taken on Saturday, September 12, 2026, shortly after the gathering held at the Talata Mafara residence of former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari.

The prayer session reportedly attracted about 1,000 Islamic scholars from different communities who gathered to seek divine support for Tinubu’s re-election.

The affected clerics were identified as Imam Yahuza, First Jumma’at Imam of Dogon Madacci; Magawata Abdullahi, Second Jumma’at Imam of Dogon Madacci; Malam Shehu Dakko; Imam Bala Fagon; and Na’ibi Tasi’u of Tungar Nagudai.

The five reportedly travelled from communities in Bakura and Talata Mafara Local Government Areas to attend the event.

The incident has sparked renewed concern over insecurity in Zamfara, coming shortly after a major religious gathering held at the residence of a former governor and prominent political figure.

Yari is currently serving as a senator and is also the Director-General of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign.

Details surrounding the reported abduction, including the identities of those responsible and the current whereabouts of the clerics, remained unclear as of press time.

The Zamfara State Police Command had not officially confirmed the incident.

Attempts to obtain comments from the command’s spokesperson, Yezid Abubakar, through calls and messages were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
