The Delta State Government has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, following allegations that he was involved in the assault of a senior aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Izeze’s suspension takes effect immediately and is intended to allow security agencies to investigate the allegation without interference.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, announced the decision in a statement issued on Monday.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) in Effurun, where Izeze was said to have been involved in a confrontation with the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.
The state government said the suspension was necessary to ensure that the investigation into the matter was conducted fairly and independently.
According to the statement, the security agencies are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and determine the facts of the incident.
The government also stressed that maintaining public safety, law and order, and respect for human life remained key priorities of the administration.
It further stated that no individual or institution would be considered above the law, including government officials and state institutions.
The government did not specify how long the investigation would last or indicate whether the commissioner would return to office after the process is concluded.
Izeze, who represents Ughelli South State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, was appointed Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads) by Governor Oborevwori.
