A 40-year-old British woman, Claire Chadwick, and her unborn daughter have died in Nigeria, according to a statement by her family.

Chadwick, who was 37 weeks pregnant, reportedly developed sepsis after losing her baby in the womb and subsequently died from septic shock. She was expecting a daughter with her Nigerian husband, Ibrahim.

The deceased had moved from the United Kingdom to Nigeria to join her husband. Over time, she gained a significant following on social media, where the couple shared videos documenting their relationship, religious beliefs and food challenges on TikTok and Instagram.

Following the tragedy, her family has initiated a GoFundMe appeal with a £10,000 fundraising target to cover the cost of repatriating her remains to the UK, a journey of approximately 3,000 miles.

Her sister, Shannon, said the family’s greatest wish was to have both mother and child brought home for a dignified burial.

"More than anything, we want them both returned so they can be laid to rest with dignity, surrounded by the family who love them," she said.

Describing Chadwick as humorous and strong-willed, Shannon said her sister had lived life on her own terms and would be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

She added that Chadwick is survived by her 19-year-old son, who lives in Wales, her husband and other family members.

Speaking to WalesOnline, Shannon expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received since the fundraising campaign was launched.

She also acknowledged REST, a charity that provides assistance to families dealing with sudden or tragic bereavements abroad.

Several people have also taken to the fundraising page to express their condolences, describing Chadwick as a kind and caring person.
