President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and the Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, have publicly reconciled, bringing an end to recent tensions between them.
During plenary, Akpabio apologized for remarks he said may have offended Oshiomhole, acknowledging that some of his comments could have been perceived as unsenatorial.
He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the rights and privileges of every senator, including Oshiomhole, and said he holds the former Edo State governor in high esteem.
The Senate President also stressed that both lawmakers had agreed to put their differences behind them and work together in the interest of the National Assembly.
Relations between the two senior lawmakers had become strained in recent weeks, with Oshiomhole openly opposing some of Akpabio’s positions during plenary.
The disagreement came to a head during deliberations on the confirmation of an ambassadorial nominee, when Oshiomhole objected to the nomination of an ambassadorial nominee over allegations of sexual misconduct, prompting an exchange that heightened tensions between the two.
However, at Thursday’s plenary, Akpabio publicly extended an olive branch, apologizing to Oshiomhole and declaring that “agreement is agreement,” signalling a formal end to the rift between both lawmakers.
