In a bid to mitigate conflicts and violent crimes, the Kano State Police Command has banned ceremonial horse riding, popularly referred to as durbar in the state.
Youths are said to engage in violent conflicts, injuring one another while on horseback.
The state Police Commissioner, Muhammad Hussaini Gumel made this known after a meeting with the durbar committee, Kano Emirate Council.
CP Gumel said the unconventional horse riding, popularly known as Dhawan durbar or hawan kilisa during weddings and majalisi, is completely banned without approval across the eight metropolitan local governments in Kano.
“These Containment Measures taken by the Kano State Police Command are aimed at getting rid of the increasing spate of crimes and criminalities and totally nipping them in the bud.” he said.
He maintained that one of the resolutions of the meeting held between the Police command and durbar committee was to find lasting solutions to insecurity.
