Italian police reported a disturbing incident ahead of the highly anticipated Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and AC Milan. A hooded group of attackers stabbed a 34-year-old PSG supporter in Milan on Monday night, leaving him seriously injured with two stab wounds in the leg. The victim was promptly taken to the hospital, and his life is not believed to be in immediate danger.
According to witnesses, the attack occurred during a clash between approximately 50 Milan fans and French supporters in the Navigli area of Milan, a popular district known for its cafes, bars, and nightlife. Video footage shared on social media depicted a confrontation between the groups, with some individuals wearing hoods and wielding batons. The incident has raised concerns about fan violence and safety ahead of the Champions League fixture.
This incident follows a similar stabbing of a Newcastle United supporter in the same area of Milan just two months ago before a Champions League match against Milan. The PSG vs Milan match, held at San Siro stadium, is expected to be intense, especially due to PSG’s recent 3-0 victory over Milan at the Parc des Princes. The atmosphere will be further heightened by the return of Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who left Milan for PSG in 2021.
The match holds significant importance for both teams’ Champions League prospects, with just four points separating the four teams in Group F. Milan, currently at the bottom of the group with two points, aims to bounce back after failing to score in their opening three matches. The incident underscores the need for heightened security measures to ensure the safety of fans attending football matches.
