The acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has decorated 31 newly promoted senior officers.
The officers comprised 12 officers promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General (AIG) of Police and 19 Commissioners of Police (CP).
Performing the ceremony on Thursday at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, IGP Egbetokun informed the officers that their hard work did not go unnoticed.
He said he is not in doubt that their elevation and decoration will serve as inspiration to others.
He informed them that their promotion was not the end of the journey but the beginning of a new one, urging them, “Lead with compassion, act with courage, and serve with honour.”
The acting IGP charged the newly decorated officers to use their new ranks to inspire public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He further charged them to be the change agents that Nigeria needs at this time.
The police boss, “Use your new ranks to inspire public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force. Be the change agents that Nigeria needs at this time.
“Your promotion is not the end of the journey but the beginning of a new one. Lead with compassion, act with courage, and serve with honour.”
The occasion had in attendance, Governors Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos State, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, and Governor Godwin Obaseki Edo states respectively.
Also in attendance was the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, IGP Baba Alkali, and his wife, Traditional Rulers, and other senior police officers.
Earlier in a goodwill message, Governor Bello who spoke on behalf of his colleagues congratulated and appreciated the newly decorated officers.
Bello appreciated the Police Service Commission (PSC) for finding the senior officers worthy of promotion.
He commended the police for always maintaining peace and stability in the country.
According to him, highways in Kogi and other highways across the country are safe because of the police and other security agencies.
The governor expressed the newly decorated officers will justify their new ranks.
In a vote of thanks, AIG Ogundele Joshua promised the IGP that he and his colleagues would do more and assured that they would carry on with their tasks very well.
