Professor Florence Banku Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has assured Law Students of the institution that their concerns will be carefully examined and addressed.
She met with the leadership of the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), Unical Branch, to commend them for raising awareness about the challenges faced by the Faculty of Law.
Prof. Obi praised the students for conducting themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner during their protests. She acknowledged them as law-abiding students who respect the university’s rules and regulations.
She assured the students that the university’s management is committed to resolving student-related issues in the faculty and the institution as a whole.
During the meeting, Prof. Obi mentioned that the process of selecting students for Law school would involve a committee rather than being solely managed by an individual.
In a separate development, human rights activist and journalist Agba Jalingo revealed that he has received calls from multiple victims alleging sexual harassment by the accused legal luminary.
He mentioned that over ten victims of sexual assault by the professor have contacted him, and many are willing to testify against him.
One of the victims, Prof. Sinem-Abasi Ekong from the University of Uyo, recounted an alleged incident of molestation by the legal luminary at the University of Calabar in the past.
Other victims, including Nelly Idagba, have also taken to social media to speak out about their experiences.
Efforts to reach Prof. Cyril Ndifon for his response were unsuccessful, as he did not answer calls or reply to messages.
A source from the University mentioned that the management is committed to addressing the incident appropriately and ensuring that the matter is not overlooked. The university intends to keep the public informed about any developments concerning the incident.
