Moises Caicedo, the Brighton midfielder, is reportedly reconsidering his decision to join Liverpool, even after the Reds submitted a £111 million bid that surpassed Chelsea’s offer.
Jurgen Klopp’s team appeared to be leading the race to sign the Ecuadorian international after tabling a bid higher than Brighton’s £105 million asking price, with Chelsea following suit with a £100 million bid.
While Klopp confirmed that the club’s bid had been accepted, recent reports suggest that Caicedo is having reservations about moving to Anfield.
According to Sky Sports, Caicedo and his representatives are still in London, and they were expected to travel to Liverpool for a medical on Friday. However, the player’s “second thoughts” have thrown the deal into uncertainty.
If Caicedo’s move to Liverpool falls through, it will be another setback for Klopp’s midfield plans, after failing to secure a deal for Romeo Lavia from Southampton.
Klopp acknowledged that the deal with Brighton was agreed upon but emphasized that the club doesn’t have unlimited resources, despite the British record fee involved.
Chelsea, who had their £100 million bid outbid by Liverpool, reportedly remain hopeful of securing a deal for Caicedo, with personal terms yet to be agreed upon.
Caicedo’s potential move to Liverpool would make him the club’s third major signing of the summer, alongside Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
