A Nigerian doctor based in the United Kingdom lost custody of his 16-year-old son after flogging him with a belt.
A child rights advocate known as pepstalk1, who shared the story on her Instagram page on Wednesday, said the father caught his son and his friends watching an inappropriate video.
According to her, the boy had his friends at the house for a study sleepover in preparation for their exams. However, when his father checked on them around 3:00 am, he found them watching the video.
He got upset and flogged his son with a belt. Shocked by his action, his friends reportedly informed the police and told them that while the father was beating his son with a belt, the doctor repeatedly said, “Is this how you want to become a doctor?”
Giving his testimony in Court, the 16-year-old said his father always flogs him to study the subject that he doesn’t want and his father wants him to study medicine at the university.
The Court ruled that the boy be taken into custody care and can no longer go back to his father’s house.
